underwater treasure hunt OJ1*

Ever wanted to find your long-lost ankle bracelet that time you went snorkelling at The Great Barrier Reef? Or you lost one of your flippers? I know I did!!
The chance of finding them again are more likely now! No, there is no Apps to locate your missing items that has been taken by the ocean.. but there is UNDERWATER GOOGLE MAP! Yes, you heard that correctly.

Google has taken its Maps ability down to the bottom of the ocean. Have a quick play around here. It felt like I was taken back to my childhood vacation!

For all those Nemo-loving people, it's your chance to go find Nemo, Dory and friends! I think I've found Crush, the turtle! And I still manage to keep myself dry, isn't technology and the internet just WONDERFUL?! Next thing you know, I'll be re-staging my next holiday at Hawaii - while I am actually sitting in my backyard with my homemade Pina Colada (with an umbrella of course!). And then maybe.. a trip to Jupiter?

technologically and fashionably green OJ1*

I've been learning about fashion sustainability this semester, and I can say that I am TRYING to shop less and wash less. Yes, you heard correct!

Shop less? to minimise my disposal waste of unwanted clothes - which means, buy less of the cheap stuff and more of the expensive, qualitative things.. aka. a Balenciaga Classic City bag instead of a $200 bag that I will be giving the kick in a year's time or so..
Wash less? as in not washing my clothes after EVERY wear! Because.. the most unsustainable part of a piece of garment is the use part! Not the manufacturing, or the distribution.. but the USE! My only exception is if I had spilt something on it and it's visible.
So, I am trying to be more eco-friendly with clothing and shopping.. now how about tech gadget goods?
Every month/year comes a new savvy gadget that I'll be lusting over. Best example is the Apple products with its yearly updates. I think my use for Apple products is a 2-year time period. But I don't want to be putting the unused gadgets in the trash or letting it sit in my drawers.
I know they have those cellphone recycle bins at Telstra and other phone places.. but it'd be awesome to get money back for recycling those items right? Just as if you are recycling bottle caps!

Who would not want instant cash? Decided that the Iphone 5 is not for you? Quickly stop by the Eco ATM and recycle the phone and instantly get $$$.. maybe to buy the Samsung SIII! Or you can automatically donate your cash-back to a charity of your choice. Talk about helping the environment AND others!
Take a look at this video

How simple? If only they had some in Australia now..

twitterview OJ1*

Interviewing people is one of the most important aspect of being a journalist. The amount of times you are rejected by people who do not want to talk to you for a story, and being rejected face-to-face is something a lot of people hate. But, for the other times when we do get the interview.. then it's the preparation of which questions to ask? Is this question too intrusive? Should I really ask this question? But what if it sounds dumb? Having to sit or stand across from that person waiting for the answers can be a little bit scary for first-time journalists. But I'm sure it does become easier.
Where am I getting at you ask?

Last Friday, women's magazine Cosmopolitan's former Editor-in-Chief  Kate White held a Twitterview. What is that? Forget Skype interviews... because that was so two years ago. Twitterview is basically sending in tweets (in question form, of course) to the interviewee, in this case @katemwhite.
What's it all about? Ed2010 (an online insider/mentor for journalists wanting to work in the magazine industry) hosted a live Twitterview with Kate. This was a chance for tweeters to tweet questions they want to know about Kate, the magazine industry, getting that job, basically it's an opportunity to send through gut-wrenching questions without seeing Kate's face and going through all the pre-butterfly-nerve-wrecking-interview fear. Because you could be asking questions while watching your weekly dose of Master Chef or doing your daily gym regime.

Unfortunately due to timezone limitations I was not able to be twittering live as I was still curled in bed!
But here is how the conversation took place...

PLUG: Kate has a book coming out tomorrow (18th September).. I Shouldn't Be Telling You This: Success Secrets Every Gutsy Girl Should Know
Yes, I've pre-ordered mine through my iPad :) Happy reading successors!

bringin' sexy-slingbacks back! yeah!

Let's rewind five years back.. are we back there yet? The year was.. 2007. When high-waisted shorts were the coolest thing ever or having anything belted at the waist made you look fashionable. When Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton were on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia. When parker jackets, Dr. Martins was the "New Look". When thick chunks of platforms and wedges seemed a bit odd and confusing - yet we eventually adapted to live and breathe them, but then now we complain about the pain.. and flatforms are now our friends. And when sexy slingback heels were just getting the kick out of the shoe closet into the unwanted bin.
Yes, remember these slingback heels?
'Nadya' - House of Harlow 1960

I'm not hating on them. I do/did own one or two most likely - bare in mind I was 15 at the time. Let's just say they are not my go-to heels if I were to be heading on a night out. But I think I have fallen for her sister.. the thinner, sexier version (okay, that may have just sounded terrible. I was not meant to imply thin is sexier). But you know which one I am talking about.. the one with the one slim strip just before the toes - which shows most of your feet.

Vionnet; Python Alexandre Birman; Vampanodo Christian Louboutin
Fidella, Rose, Vance Herve Leger

Sexy? Yes please. It's like a "side-boob" but on your feet. If you still think it's tacky.. that's fine. I love it!! +plus the stiletto is an added bonus of sexiness that the wedge will never have. And who doesn't love a little bit of peeping the toes.. you can show off that new polish! It's very work appropriate too, as though you are not too out there trying to make a statement with the chunky wedge nor are you being boring with the closed toe-point heel.

Now how did I possibly, suddenly fell head over heels (pun intended) for these?! Miss Gomez will take the credit for this new obsession. Where? During this year's Teen Choice Awards
First of all, she wore this gorgeous, sexy bright pink skate-type dress. Then my eyes wondered down and saw the gorgeous Herve Legers...

I know what shoes I will be wearing tomorrow night! My year-12 formal heels ;)
Thank you Selena.

sourcing the big crowd OJ1*

Crowdsourcing is a method people are starting to become familiar with. It is an efficient and sustainable way to produce goods especially for the fashion industry. Not only is this technique useful for designers, but journalists are also using this technique to gather ideas about news stories and connect with sources that actually have an interest in the topic by sending a twitter question in hoping to receive informational and oppinionated responses.

The fashion industry use crowdsourcing to determine whether consumers will even buy their garments. This tool decreases unnecessary manufacturing, making sure designers only make what the customers want. Websites such as Kickstarter and Ideacious gives consumers the chance to back up and support the products they want, and if there is sufficient 'backers' then the product will continue into production and manufacturing - knowing people are interested in this product and will buy.

Crowd sourcing is an engaging way to communicate with the public and knowing what they want and what is really in the public's interest. Journalists should realise how useful this technique is.

giving us an extra hand OJ1*

We all want our daily jobs to become easier day by day..
I'm not sure in which industry you are working at, but journalists are deffinitely getting extra boost with new innovative technology and digital friendly devices.
While browsing PSFK (click away if you have no idea what that is), I came across this new iPad app that "lets you annotate photos with your voice". You're probably thinking.. what?!

Rundown: You take a picture. You then record a voiceover, that could include where you took the picture, any funny memories of that capturing moment, basically anything you want to remember about that picture.
Come to think of it, it is a video without the moving pictures.. if that makes sense.

Now, how is this useful for journalists? Have you ever heard or read a live blog? It is a coverage of a ongoing or uncovering story. The journalist would post updates every several minutes. This new app would be one of the ideal tool for live blogging. Point and shoot at a footy game and be your own commentator. Sounds too easy? Because it is. Here is me proving how easy it is..
image is clickable
You can upload it straight to Facebook and Twitter, send it through email (which gives you a link that you can include in a live blog), and even apply filters, frames and titles for all you crafty-artistic journalists.

eye spy.. DANNIJO! DANNIJO!

and they all chant!..

My over-waited long lasting love and obsession for DANNIJO is here (handmade in NY *bonus points).
I'm head over heels for all these eyes, or I think they're head over heels for me..
It feels like I'm being stalked.. or imagine if the eyeballs of these eyes were secret cameras. HOW. COOL?!
Okay, it may seem uncomfortable at first.. but I think people would be like.. omg.. what is that thing on her chest/arm/finger!? It's too crazy I know.

I think Big Brother, infringed copyright here with the whole "eye" thing.
that cuff, is a la mazing. Thank you Man Repeller.
